CHESS Brokerage Event at the University of Tartu, Estonia

TARTU, ESTONIA – The CHESS Cyber-Security Excellence Hub fostered international collaboration at its recent brokerage event, hosted by the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Tartu on November 11, 2025.

The event brought together a diverse cohort of academics and industry professionals from across Europe, including Estonia, Czechia, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands. The gathering served as a dynamic platform to showcase the project’s progress and forge new partnerships.

The CHESS project is dedicated to building a cross-border cyber-security research and innovation strategy. Its mission is to identify key strengths and address critical gaps through targeted pilots in six core challenge areas:

    • CA1: Internet of Secure Things
    • CA2: Security Certification
    • CA3: Verification of Trustworthy Software
    • CA4: Security Preservation in Blockchain
    • CA5: Post-Quantum Cryptography
    • CA6: Human-centric Aspects of Cyber-Security

Attendees were presented with key results from the CHESS initiative and explored new avenues for cooperation. The brokerage event agenda also featured two important EU-funded projects under the CHESS consortium partners:

    • The QARC Project, which is focused on facilitating the transition to quantum-safe cryptography.
    • The CCAT Project aims to advance open-source cybersecurity tools for applied, non-academic use.

The event also highlighted the growing synergy in the region’s cyber-security landscape, following the kickoff meeting for the SECURE-NET project, held a day earlier, which aims to enhance cross-sectoral collaboration. This project is also funded by the EU and a joint initiative within the CHESS consortium partners.

The CHESS brokerage event successfully strengthened the pan-European cybersecurity network, paving the way for future innovation and secure digital ecosystems.
